Luxury vinyl flooring looks like hardwood or stone

Luxury vinyl flooring is thicker than standard vinyl and the designs on the planks and tiles are more realistic. Generally, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) imitates natural stone while luxury vinyl planks (LVP) imitate hardwood. This durable flooring resists stains, scratches, indents, and water. Some styles are waterproof rather than water-resistant. The Floor Store is a family-owned and operated LVP flooring retailer in Michigan that has a showroom in Wixom. We carry several types of luxury vinyl products as well as other flooring options.

LVP and LVT

Both LVP and LVT are high-quality child-and pet-friendly products that often come with 15-year, 30-year, or lifetime warranties. You can find planks with wood species patterns that range from traditional woods like oak and maple to more unique exotic woods. Texture and finishing effects like weathered whitewashing is also available. Typical tiles feature the look of marble, slate, and travertine. Most often, floors are installed by connecting planks or tiles together in tongue and groove fashion to float over the subfloor.

Waterproof flooring

Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) luxury vinyl flooring is 100% waterproof. It won’t swell, ripple, or peel even if it is soaked in water. Planks and tiles that have this waterproof core are ideal for basements, kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways. Typically, this top of the line product is composed of four layers, which are listed from top to bottom.

  • Wear layer - protects against daily wear and tear
  • Design layer - high definition image that provides a realistic look
  • WPC core - dense, durable, and great for uneven subfloors
  • Backing layer - adds cushioning and sound insulation

Wear layer thickness is measured by the MIL number. Thehigher the MIL number, the more resistant your floor is to scratches, scuffs, and other abrasions. While an 8 MIL wear layer is often the lowest available, it is adequate for most homes. If you have a lot of activity in your home, the 12 MIL option may be best for you. A 20 MIL top layer is great for businesses.
